Sean Hartnett is a sculptor who divides his time between Pietrasanta, Italy, and Block Island, Rhode Island. Working with diverse varieties of marble sourced from around the world, he creates evocative, organic forms.

Raised in upstate New York, Sean is an alumnus of Stanford University, with graduate studies at Columbia University and the University of Perugia. He honed his craft in Pietrasanta and at the Woodstock School of Art, where he eventually built a home and studio and helped establish the Woodstock bronze foundry alongside sculptor Raffaele Martini.

Since 1987, Sean has maintained an active practice across his dual studios in Pietrasanta and Block Island. His work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States and is held in prominent private and public collections on both continents.

Sean’s work can currently be seen at the Gallery Padien on Block Island.

Sean’s wife Leslie Hartnett is a well-known ceramicist and painter in both locales. His daughter Amoreena is a graphic designer and ceramic artist based in Saratoga Springs, NY, and his son Cully is a talented artist in the medium of wood based in Grass Valley, CA.
